Music Ministries
St.
Malachy Church invites you to join the Music Ministry Program.
Read the following descriptions and decide how you can share your talent.
For more information about these ministries, please contact Laurie Lanz,
Music Minister, at 412.331.4664 or
laurie.lanz@stmalachypgh.org.
Adult Choir

The Adult Choir sings at the 11:00 AM Mass throughout
the year. Rehearsals are held each Wednesday from
7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Music Room of St. Malachy School. We need both male and
female voices. You do not need to know how to read music, just
a desire to praise God through song!
Children's Choir

The Children’s Choir is open to any child from grades
2 to 5. Your child does not have to belong to St. Malachy School
in order to be a member. Rehearsals are held Wednesdays from
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Music Room of St. Malachy School. The Children’s
Choir sings once a month at the 11:00 AM Mass. The choir also
sings at the 4:00 PM Christmas Eve Mass and the 12:30 PM Easter Day
Mass. Children in the choir that attend St. Malachy School
will participate in the weekly Friday 8:45 AM Mass. Introduce
your child to the Music Program by having them join the Children’s Choir!
Resurrection Choir

The Resurrection Choir sings for all funerals held
at St. Malachy Church. There are no rehearsals for this choir,
but you must be able to sing in tune. If you are unable to attend
weekly rehearsals, but have a flexible schedule and a desire to share
your talents for this important ministry, this may be the choir for
you!
Contemporary Choir

The Contemporary Choir sings once a month on a
rotating Mass schedule, either the 4:00 PM Saturday or 11:00 AM
Sunday Mass. The Contemporary Choir is accompanied by guitars.
If you enjoy this type of music, we are looking for new members of
all ages, young and old!
Instrumentalists

The Handbell Choir accompanies the Adult Choir at
the 11:00 AM Mass during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. The
Choir also plays for special occasions. New ringers are invited to join the Handbell
Choir. Prospective ringers
should be in at least the seventh grade and must be able to read music,
either treble or bass clef. The Bell Choir rehearses every Sunday
morning from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM.
For more information, contact Margie Masilunas at 412.331.3660.
We are also looking to expand the Music Program by
adding other instruments. If you are proficient at an instrument
and would like to enhance the Mass, please call Laurie to set up an
audition.
Cantors
The Cantor is both a singer and leader of
congregational song. Once the congregation is singing
with confidence, the cantor’s voice correspondingly recedes.
The Cantor needs to sing well, and be a strong leader.
