Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children’s
Liturgy is a program in which the children are provided
scripture more suited to their age and a discussion more
relevant to their lives as children. During Sunday
Mass, after the opening prayer, the priest invites the
children to follow an adult leader off to a separate area
(usually the Music Room). Children’s Liturgy begins
with an opening prayer, followed by the first reading, and
runs through the prayers of the faithful. At the end
of each Children’s Liturgy, the children are provided
handouts which discuss the message from the day’s readings,
and often provide activities for the children to perform to
reinforce that message. The children return
to Mass at or shortly after the offertory collection.
For 2009-10, Children’s Liturgy will be
held during the 11:00 AM Mass, the first and third Sundays
of the month, through May 2010. The program is for
children in grades K-3, in order to conduct the Liturgy
more effectively, and so that a single homily and discussion
can have meaning for all children participating.
