Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a liturgy in which the children are provided scripture more suited to their age, and a homily and
discussion more relevant to their lives as children. During Sunday Mass, after the opening prayer, the priest invites the children
to follow an adult leader off to a separate area (usually the Music Room) to participate in Children’s Liturgy. The Liturgy begins
with an opening prayer, followed by the first reading, and with Prayers of the Faithful. At the end of each Children’s Liturgy, the
children are provided handouts which discuss the message from the day’s readings, and often provide activities for the children to do to
reinforce that message. The children typically return to Mass at or shortly after the offertory collection.
The Children’s Liturgy is held during the 11:00 AM Mass on the first and third Sundays of the month and is led by Dan & Linda Trocchio. The program is for children
in Grades K through 3, in order to conduct the Liturgy more effectively, and so that a single homily and discussion can have meaning for all children participating.
